A Group Challenge is a bigger competition for a company, gym, club, or event. It holds up to 100 people and can split them into as many as 20 teams (divisions). It can use any scoring method.
Hosting a Group Challenge needs Pro and the iPhone app. Membership isn’t enough. Joining one is always free, on every plan.

Group Challenge or group goal?

They’re different things:
  • A Group Challenge (Pro to host) is a large competition with a participant limit and up to 20 teams.
  • A group goal (Membership or Pro to host) adds a shared total to any competition that everyone’s activity adds into. See personal and shared goals.

Host a Group Challenge

  1. Open Compete, tap the + (Add competition) button, then Host a group challenge. If you’re not on Pro, this opens the upgrade screen.
  2. Name it, choose scoring, and pick dates as usual.
  3. On Public or private?, under Challenge size, Group challenge is turned on. Set the most people who can join with the people max control: 10 to 100, in steps of 10. The default is 50.
  4. To split people into divisions, turn on Team competition (Compete in groups instead of individually) and choose up to 20 teams. Normal competitions allow up to 4.
  5. Choose TEAM ASSIGNMENT: Auto-assign balances players across teams when they join. Manual lets you assign each invited player to a team on the next step.
  6. Review the summary and tap Create competition.
You can also turn on Group challenge from the Challenge size section while making any competition. Without Pro, it shows a PRO badge.

Invite people

Open the competition and tap More options (the ⋯ button). The invite row shows how full it is, such as Invite people (12/50 joined). Use Share invite link to send one link to everyone. When the limit is reached, new people see “This competition is full.”

Join a Group Challenge

Open the invite link or use Join with code, then tap Join Competition. Joining is free on every plan.

Standings

Team standings combine members’ scores and appear on the competition screen. Each person also has their own score on the leaderboard. See the leaderboard and the scoring reference.
