Most upcoming seasonal events come in three paces: Easy, Steady, and Strong. Your pace sets your own daily target, so people who move a little and people who move a lot can take part in the same event. Paces are on every plan, on iPhone and Android. Community events and workout-count events don’t have paces. Neither do a few gentle events, such as Gentle Weekend.

The daily target for each pace

The targets are the same in every paced event. Rings are judged against your own ring goals.

How your pace is suggested

When you tap Join Event on a paced event, MoveTogether looks at your last 28 days and suggests a pace.
  • With Coach Mo: the sheet reads Mo picked Steady for you (or another pace), with a short reason and a tip for a good day.
  • If you turned off Coach Mo’s use of your fitness data: you get Your suggested pace: Steady (or another pace) with a plain reason, such as your typical day’s steps. This setting is Personalize Coach with my fitness data in Settings > Privacy Settings.
  • If you have fewer than 7 active days: you start at Easy, and your pace is checked again after a couple of event days.
  • If the suggestion takes too long: you see Pick your pace and choose yourself.
Tap Join at Easy, Join at Steady, or Join at Strong to join. In a Challenge, each pace button also shows its daily goal, such as 3K steps a day, 6K steps a day, or 10K steps a day. If you join from the Home card, you don’t see this sheet. MoveTogether picks your pace for you, and you can change it on the event screen. If you tap a pace easier than the event allows for you, you join at the easiest allowed pace and see You’re in at Steady, the easiest pace this event allows right now.

Paces in a Challenge

In a seasonal Challenge, you need a set number of days to earn the badge. Everyone needs the same number of days. Your pace decides what makes a day count.
  • A day counts at your pace’s target. For example, at Steady in a steps Challenge, a day counts at 6,000 steps. The event shows the rule, such as A day counts when you hit 6,000 steps.
  • Exercise Challenges: any logged workout counts as a day at every pace.
  • Move up any time. Tap a harder pace in the Your pace panel. If you already have event days, you’re asked first, because your earlier days are checked again at the new target. Days that miss it stop counting.
  • Move down only on day 1. From the event’s second day, easier paces are locked.
  • Stretch stars. A day that also beats the next pace’s target gets a small gold star. Stars are just for fun. They add no points and no Movecoins. Strong has no next pace, so Strong days don’t get stars.
  • Your badge shows your pace. On your badge’s detail you’ll see, for example, Earned at Steady pace.
  • How paces work. Tap the info icon next to Your pace to see what each pace needs per day.
Example: You join a 6-day steps Challenge at Easy (3,000 steps). On day 3 you move up to Steady (6,000). Your days with 3,000 to 5,999 steps stop counting, and days with 6,000 or more still count. You need 6 counting days by the end.

Paces in a Competition

In a paced seasonal Competition, you race your own target, not other people’s raw numbers.
  • Each day scores a percent of your own daily target, up to 150%. Hitting your target exactly is 100%.
  • Your leaderboard number is your average day so far, as a percent. A day with no activity counts as 0%.
  • Boosts and 2x days don’t apply to paced days.
  • You only see your own raw numbers. Other people’s steps or calories stay hidden. Your own days are in the Your days card, for example Tuesday · 9,000 steps · 150% (max for the day 🔥).
  • Your floor is set when you join. You can keep your pace or go harder, but never easier than your floor.
  • Changing pace re-scores every day so far at the new target, so your score can go down. You’re asked to confirm first.
  • Ties: the person with more days at 100% or more wins. If still tied, whoever went furthest past their target.
Example: You race at Steady (6,000 steps) in a 3-day Competition. Your leaderboard number is the average: (150 + 50 + 150) ÷ 3 = about 117%. Someone at Strong who walks 10,000 steps every day scores 100% each day, so you’d be ahead.

The day-2 check

From an event’s third day, MoveTogether checks once whether your pace is too easy. If your typical event day so far already meets the next pace’s target, you move up one pace. You never move down.
  • You get a notification such as Mo moved you up to Steady. You’re crushing it 🔥.
  • In a Competition, your floor rises to the new pace and every day so far is re-scored.
  • In a Challenge, your earlier days are checked against the new target.
  • One-day events never reach day 3, so they aren’t checked.

Change your pace before the event starts

If you joined an upcoming paced event, open it to see the same Your pace panel. You can change pace there before the event begins, within the same rules.

Something not right?

  • A day didn’t count. Check your pace’s target in the Your pace panel. If you moved up, earlier days are checked at the new target.
  • You can’t pick an easier pace. In a Challenge, easier paces lock from day 2. In a Competition, you can’t go below the floor set when you joined.
  • Your pace changed by itself. That’s the day-2 check moving you up one pace.
For event formats and badges, see Join seasonal events. If something still looks wrong, send the event name, your pace, and the date through the in-app support chat.
