Once a competition starts, the host can’t change its scoring alone. The host can ask the group, and the change happens only if everyone accepts. This works on iPhone and Android. Before a competition starts, the host can change scoring directly on iPhone in Edit competition.

Propose a change as host

  1. Open the active competition.
  2. Tap More options (the ⋯ button), then Edit competition.
  3. Under Scoring, tap Ask the group to change it.
  4. On Change scoring, pick the new method and tap Ask the group.
Everyone in the competition gets a notification, “Scoring change needs your say”, and sees a Scoring change proposed banner on the competition.

What you can switch to

You can switch to Ring Close Count, Head to Head on Steps, Calories, or Exercise, Workout Count, Percentage of Goals, Total Activity, or Stick To It. Switching to Stick To It needs the host to be on Member or Pro. You can’t switch to:
  • Personal Goal, because nobody would have a personal goal set.
  • Distance, because its rules can only be set when a competition is created.
  • Sleep. To race on sleep, start a new Sleep competition.
  • WHOOP Strain, which is retired.
A Collective competition has no scoring, so there’s nothing to change.

Vote as a participant

Open the competition. The banner shows the current method, an arrow, and the new one. Tap Accept or Decline.

Rules for the vote

  • Everyone who was in the competition when the host asked must accept. The host’s own vote counts as accepted.
  • One Decline ends the proposal, and scoring stays as it is.
  • People who join during the vote aren’t asked. People who leave stop counting.
  • While the vote is open, the current scoring stays in effect.
  • Only one proposal can be open at a time. The host can tap Withdraw to cancel it.
  • A proposal that isn’t decided within 72 hours expires.

What happens when it applies

MoveTogether rescores every day of the competition so far under the new method, then refreshes the standings. Everyone gets a notification. Positions can move, including yours, even with no new activity. Example: a competition changes from Step Count to Ring Close Count on day 4. Days 1 to 3 are rescored by how many rings each person closed, and so is every day after. The old step totals no longer decide the ranking. Someone who led with 40,000 steps but closed only 4 rings can fall behind someone who closed 8.

Something not right?

  • The button is missing: only the host sees it, and only while the competition is active.
  • “There is already a scoring change waiting on the group. Withdraw it first.”: tap Withdraw on the open proposal, then try again.
  • Standings look wrong after a change: refresh after everyone syncs, and compare with the scoring reference.
