# Changing competition scoring

> How a host proposes a scoring change in an active competition, how participants vote, and why applying it rescores earlier days.

The host cannot change an active competition’s scoring alone. A proposed change requires every participant to accept.

## Propose a change as host

1. Open the active competition.
2. Open its edit options and choose **Change scoring**.
3. Select a new method and choose **Ask the group**.
4. Wait for every participant to respond.

The app excludes Personal Goal and WHOOP Strain from these proposals because changing to either can leave participants without the goal or connected source needed to score fairly.

## Vote as a participant

Open the scoring-change banner in the competition details and review both methods. Tap **Accept** to agree or **Decline** to refuse.

The proposal applies only when every participant accepts. One decline leaves the current scoring unchanged. While votes are pending, the original method remains in effect.

## What happens when it applies

MoveTogether rescores every earlier day in the competition under the new method, then refreshes the standings. Your position can move even when no new activity arrived.

**Example:** A competition changes from Step Count to Ring Close Count on day four. Days one through three are recalculated using each participant’s ring results, as are later days. The old step totals no longer determine the ranking.

If a position looks unexpected, refresh after your sources sync and compare the method with the [scoring reference](/competitions/scoring-reference).
